UPDATE 9/4: Thank you all who visited the installation. Below are photos.
End of August, 2024. You stand resolutely on the evaporated bed of Lake Lahontan in northern Nevada, staring across the trash fence. You observe the local sun, inexhaustible and insufferable, and the reason why sensible living things skedaddle to points elsewhere. You observe the wind whip up dust clouds that will anoint you on their arrival, as their brethren have been doing unto you throughout the week. You casually stroke the red-and-crispy skin along your arm, suggesting a test dish from the Colonel.
Two questions come to mind: “For which sins am I being punished?” and “Now what am I supposed to do?”
Amazingly, and as Burning Man is wont, by reputation, the answer to both questions presents itself. The answer arrives unexpectedly, coalescing in the heat-distorted ripples of lower troposphere. You squint, and you find….
Downhill skiing.
Or snowboarding. Take your pick.
Introducing Mount Playa Alpine Resort, your new favorite destination for world-class skiing and riding at Burning Man. Let our ten-passenger gondola and network of detachable high-speed chairlifts whisk you high above the desert floor for 3,000 feet of vertical and more than 4,200 acres of terrain, both groomed and left natural for all tastes and abilities.
